The history of Akan gold weights among both the Baule and Ashanti tribes people's from both Ghana and the Ivory Coast dates back to the 14th century. The methods of lost wax casting still in use today have roots in the Islamic trade from the North.

This unique collection of jewelry features some exceptional bronze cast pieces that have been transformed into functional pieces of modern day art. Many of these pieces date from the 18th century. Copper fittings and complementary brass chains complete each work of art.
